Houston Rodeo

Saturday morning we braved the 40 degree, rainy weather (yes, I know it's not freezing, but that's cold here in Houston) and headed to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. We had fun walking around the arena and looking at the cows and pigs there for auction. They also have a really neat children's area with a petting zoo, pony rides, watching the process of chicken's hatching and there is a section with baby animals. Unforunately, we didn't head to the children's area until after lunch and Addy missed it because she fell asleep. Peyton had fun though and we had fun watching him enjoy everything.

Late afternoon Mom & Dad took all the kids home with them so that we could go to the Rodeo and concert. We love the rodeo, watching the calf roping and bucking broncos and bulls. My favorite part though is when they get 30 teenagers and 25 calves. They left the calves loose and the teenagers have to catch the calf, put it in a harness and drag it to the center of the arena. It is so funny. The kids who catch a calf get a scholarship. This year, they added a new part to the rodeo that ended up being my favorite. It was called "mutton bustin". They get young kids (4-6 years old), put a helmet on them and put them on a lamb. The kids hold on as long as they can. So cute!!

Here's some pictures of Addy at the rodeo:

I can just see Addison and Peyton when they are in their teens getting out there and doing that. WOW! How neat tho' that they get scholarships. Darling pictures of the kids and I know they had fun.

Love,
GG

What fun! We always like the animal part to the fair. You know I do not think I have been to a rodeo unless I went when I was Addy's age. They have a famous rodeo in Oregon, the Pendleton Roundup. In highschool, the foreign exchange students got to skip school and go. I remember thinking, hey sign me up! I want to miss school and go too. :)
