Memorial Day

We stayed home this year and lounged around the pool at my parent's house. Addy is really getting good at swimming with her floaties. We even have her jumping in from the side of the pool. We had a nice, relaxing weekend with family.

Disney Part 2

We spent our 3rd and 4th full days at Magic Kingdom. This was by far Addy's favorite park. She loved the Dumbo ride, It's a Small World, Peter Pan and Goofy's Barnstormer rollercoaster. Our third day we ate dinner at the Grand Floridian at Cinderella's Happliy Ever After Dinner. We got to meet Prince Charming, Cinderella (again), and Cinderella's stepsisters stepmother. Our fourth day we ate lunch at Cindrella's Royal Table in the Castle and Addy once again met all the princesses. She is really into the Disney princesses now and she had a blast. That night we ate dinner at Downtown Disney and then headed back to the Magic Kingdom to catch Wishes (the fireworks show). The next day we headed to Animal Kingdom. This was the hottest day there and Animal Kingdom doesn't have any rides where you wait inside so we were pretty miserable this day. We ended up not staying very long at Animal Kingdom because there was only one ride that Addy could ride and the rest of the things to do there were shows. We saw the bird show, Lion King and A Bug's Life, at lunch and then headed to the hotel to swim and cool off. For dinner we ate at Chef Mickey's with Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto and Minnie. AFter dinner we headed back to Magic Kingdom to ride some more rides. Our last day in the parks we started off in Hollywood Studios. It was the first Star Wars Weekend of the year and Scott wanted to see what it was all about. It ended up being really crowded in the park this day so we rode Toy Story Mania a couple of times and then headed to Epcot where we ate lunch and walked around the world to see if we could meet a couple more characters, then we went to Magic Kingdom to ride our last rides of the week. We ate dinner back at our hotel and then went swimming and headed to bed a little earlier so we could get up early to head home. We decided to drive all the way home (16 hrs) in one day and were very glad we did because that left us Sunday to relax and do laundry before heading back to work.

We had an amazing week at Disney. We were worried that Addy would be too young, but she absolutely loved it. Although she won't remember the trip, we will have wonderful memories of Addy's first time at Disney. We had so much fun that we are going back to Disney in September with my sister and her family and 2 other couple friends and their kids. We are so excited to be heading back.

Disney Part I

(Just a warning: This will be long, I don't blame anyone for not wanting to read all the details -- I just want to get it written down since we use our blog as a memory book.)

We left for our Disney vacation early on May 14th so we could get a good day of travelling in so we wouldn't have to travel too far the next day. We made it to Lake City, FL (about 2 hours from Disney) which made the next day so nice. We made it to our resort, Port Orleans French Quarter around noon on the 15th, checked in, dropped our bags off at the room and hopped on the boat to Downtown Disney to eat lunch and do some afternoon shopping. After tooling around Downtown Disney for a few hours (Addy even took a nap in her stroller) we headed back to the hotel to change clothes and go to dinner at Boma (African restaurant at the Animal Kingdom Lodge). Boma ended up just being okay. It was a little too adverturous for us I think. After dinner we headed back to our hotel to get to bed at a decent time because we knew the week was going to be a long one.

We spent our first day in the parks at Epcot. It was the last day of the Flower and Garden Festival and we wanted to see what that was all about. It really ended up not being that big of a deal for us. The topiaries of the characters were neat, but we realized that we had been there before during that time and so had already seen it. Also, Addy didn't really like Epcot too much so we just spent a couple hours there. We started the day meeting Mickey, Minnie, Goody, Pluto and Donald and then road the Nemo ride. Then Scott and I got Fastpasses for the new Soarin ride and took turns riding that. (Addy ended up being about 1 inch too short to ride several of the rides). We ate lunch, walked around a bit and then headed back to the hotel to swim. It was really hot and humid this week and we spent a lot of afternoons cooling off in the pool.

Late afternoon we headed to Magic Kingdom and got there right in time for the afternoon parade and some ice cream. We rode a couple of rides (Buzz Lightyear and Small World I think) and then took the monorail back to Epcot to eat dinner with the princesses. Addy was in awe.

The next day we went to Hollywood Studios. We headed straight for Toy Story Mania. It's a 3-D ride and you shoot at targets, plates, balloons, etc. -- really fun and Addy loved this ride. After the ride, we ran in the green army men from Toy Story and Addy got involved in a little demonstration they were doing. The rest of the day any time we saw a green army man they would salute Addy and call her "Watermelon Girl" (she was wearing a watermelon shirt). Then we met Woody and Buzz. Addy is really into Toy Story and loved every minute of this day. We ate lunch, saw the afternoon parade and did a couple more things before going to Wilderness Lodge for dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. We had the Canyon Skillet -- BBQ brisket, pulled pork, BBQ chicken, ribs, mashed potatos, corn on the cob and salad. This was the best meal we had all week. SOOOOO good.

That night we went back to Magic Kingdom (this becomes a theme, we spend each evening + 2 full days at Magic Kingdom) and rode a couple of rides before getting a seat for Spectromagic (the light parade). After the parade we headed back to the hotel and crashed.

Catching Up

Just posted an update about Easter (I know it was 2 months ago). Better late than never I suppose. I have several other things to blog about (Splashpad and of course our Disney trip) and will try to get them posted this week some time.

Easter 2010

This Easter we travelled to Arkansas to visit Scott's family. It was a whirlwind trip, but it was good to see family and Addy had a blast playing with her cousins. She got to ride a four-wheeler for the first time this trip too -- she loved it (mom wasn't too thrilled that Addy liked it so much).
